Present State and Evaluation of the Community Mental Health Center in Korea, Especially in Kyonggi Province

Abstract
|
|
|
The community mental health center(CMHC) has been considered as one of the most useful and comprehensive model in community mental health. Since 1995 about 20 CMHCs were established in Seoul and Kyung-gi Province throughout Korea. CMHC has its uniqueness and progresses according to the characteristics of its local community.
Although under the poor conditions - few professional manpower and experience, lack of social support and finance, etc - the CMHC is now developing and spreading in Korea.
The author presented several problems of the CMHC for the future development.
They are lack of legal basis, difficulty in agreement with the concept and role of the CMHC, poor linkage and co-work system with other resources and agencies in the community, and insufficiency of the tool and method for the evaluation of the effect and outcome of the CMHC.
Development of the CMHC requires consistent and continuous efforts of the mental health professionals, administrative concern and support, consumer(patients and family) participation, and community support.
